The History of 1 King Street, Belper
Our clinic is more than just a place of healing — it’s a building with a legacy of supporting the Belper community. 1 King Street, once the proud home of the Birmingham and Midland Bank, has stood as a cornerstone of local commerce for generations. Serving everyone from shopkeepers and business owners to industrialists of the textile era, it became a vital part of Belper's heritage. Over time, the institution evolved into the Midland Bank and was later acquired by HSBC, who continued to serve the town until the late 2010s.
After closing its doors as a bank, the site went through a transitional retail period as a failed bathroom showroom. In 2025, a new chapter began. The building was reimagined as Belper Chiropractic Health Centre— shifting its legacy from financial wealth to physical health. Once a space that safeguarded investments, it now safeguards spines, offering holistic care rooted in honesty, simplicity, and trust.
From a Spark to a Shared Mission
Our story began not in Derbyshire, but in Cheshire. Danielle and Carl first met while Carl was working as a firefighter. Danielle was intrigued by Carl’s experience with chiropractic care, especially after witnessing his transformation following a serious back injury at 18. That moment led her to begin working as a chiropractic assistant, sparking a passion that soon turned into a new career path.
Motivated by his own recovery and seeing Danielle begin her training as a Chiropractor, Carl left his firefighting career and moved to Oxford, joining Danielle at university. Together, they pursued a shared dream: helping others experience the same life-changing benefits of chiropractic care that had shaped their own lives.
Years of Learning, Healing, and Growth
Following graduation, they each gained experience in various clinics across the UK. Danielle worked in Burnham and later in Littlehampton, while Carl refined his skills in Windsor, Bracknell, and Chichester. They continued to train extensively—learning from some of the world’s leading chiropractors, mastering hands-on techniques like Motion Specific Technique and Diversified adjusting, and developing expertise in digital X-ray analysis.
Danielle developed a strong focus on pregnancy and paediatric chiropractic, attending international chiropractic AGMs and even representing the worlds Chiropractic students at the World Health Organization. Their combined experience shaped a practice philosophy that places people first: honest advice, tailored care, and lasting results.
Returning Home to Build Something New
After several years on the south coast, the couple made a heartfelt decision to return to the Midlands — Danielle, originally from Cheshire, and Carl from nearby Duffield, wanted to be closer to their families and serve the community they call home. They saw Belper as the perfect place to open their own clinic — a town with rich history, strong community ties, and a growing need for trustworthy, proactive healthcare.
In 2025, Belper Chiropractic Health Centre was born. Their goal is clear: to help people not just get out of pain, but to move better, feel better, and live better — through honest chiropractic care delivered with compassion, clarity, and confidence.
