Initial Chiropractic Appointment – First Appointment

After booking your first appointment, you’ll receive an email with a secure link to complete your online health questionnaire. This helps your Chiropractor understand your medical background, lifestyle, and the reasons for your visit before you even step into the clinic. When you arrive, we’ll ask you to complete one final in-person form to provide further details about your symptoms and concerns.

Your Chiropractor will then sit down with you to discuss your current issue. They’ll explore how and when your symptoms began, what aggravates or relieves them, any previous treatments you’ve tried, and relevant aspects of your personal health history. These details help shape the most appropriate course of care.

Next, a thorough physical examination will take place. This typically begins with a spinal assessment — checking for joint alignment, movement quality, and signs of dysfunction. Chiropractors are highly trained to detect subtle joint restrictions using a combination of gentle and precise manual palpation techniques. Your Chiropractor will also assess muscle tone, inflammation, and may perform more advanced neurological or orthopaedic tests depending on your presentation.

In some cases, digital X-rays may be required to fully understand the cause of your symptoms and ensure it is safe to proceed with care. If clinically appropriate, we may take these on-site during your visit. These images can be crucial in building an accurate clinical picture and developing a care plan tailored to your spinal health. Once all initial information has been gathered, your Chiropractor may choose to deliver your first chiropractic adjustment. This gentle, specific adjustment also forms part of the examination process, allowing the Chiropractor to assess how your spine responds to care and to test joint mobility in real time.

Following your initial visit, your Chiropractor will take time to review all findings — including health history, clinical exam results, and any imaging — to create a personalised treatment plan. This plan will aim to address the root cause of your symptoms, restore proper spinal function, and support your long-term recovery and wellbeing.

Chiropractic Report of Findings – Second Appointment

After your New Patient Consultation, your Chiropractor takes time to thoroughly review all of the information gathered during your visit. This includes your online intake form (detailing your health history), your symptom-specific questionnaire, consultation notes, findings from the physical examination, and, where applicable, any digital X-rays taken during your visit.

If X-rays have been taken, we also send these images to a qualified medical radiologist for a second opinion. This additional step ensures your safety, provides clinical confirmation, and helps us build the most accurate picture of your spinal health.

Once all aspects of your case have been reviewed in detail, your Chiropractor will create a personalised plan of care. This treatment plan is designed to address the root causes of your symptoms, improve spinal mobility, and support long-term recovery and wellbeing. Every plan is unique — built around your health goals, current symptoms, and how your body responds to care.

During your next visit — the Report of Findings — we’ll sit down with you to explain everything in plain language. We’ll walk through your clinical findings, review any imaging together, and help you understand what’s happening in your body. You’ll leave with a clear roadmap to recovery, and if you’re ready, we’ll begin care that day.

Phase One

This initial phase focuses on improving movement in areas of the spine that are restricted or out of alignment. It’s typically the most intensive, involving 1–3 adjustments per week for 4–8 weeks, alongside tailored stretches to maintain mobility.

Phase Two

Once motion improves, the second phase shifts to building strength and spinal stability. With adjustments reduced to once a week, you’ll also start strengthening exercises to support the gains from phase one. This phase typically lasts another 4–8 weeks.

Phase Three

Most patients feel much better by this stage. Some choose to end care, while others continue with regular maintenance visits every few weeks to preserve spinal health, especially in cases of degeneration. Your Chiropractor will guide the best next step for you.

Your Chiropractic Care Phases

Phase 1 – Restoring Motion

The first phase of your care focuses on improving spinal motion in areas that are most restricted, out of alignment, or not functioning correctly. Your Chiropractor will identify these regions during your assessment and design a treatment plan to target them. Alongside your in-clinic adjustments, you’ll be given specific at-home stretches to help maintain and encourage joint mobility between visits.

This is typically the most intensive phase of care, lasting between 4 and 8 weeks, with Chiropractic adjustments scheduled 1 to 3 times per week depending on your specific needs. The frequency and duration of care are fully personalised based on your body’s response and your Chiropractor’s clinical recommendations.

Phase 2 – Strengthening and Stabilising

Once joint motion improves and symptoms reduce, the second phase of care shifts focus to building strength and improving stability — especially in the spinal regions that showed the most dysfunction during your first phase. In addition to stretches, your Chiropractor will introduce strengthening exercises designed to support spinal alignment and enhance muscular endurance.

This phase usually lasts another 4 to 8 weeks, with adjustments scheduled approximately once per week. As always, the plan is tailored to how well your body has responded so far and is aimed at giving you lasting results.

Phase 3 – Wellness and Maintenance

By the end of the second phase, most patients experience significant relief, improved mobility, greater strength, and a renewed sense of wellbeing. From here, the path diverges depending on your personal goals:

  • Discharge: Some patients feel they’ve achieved their goals and are ready to conclude their care. Your Chiropractor will support this decision and recommend ongoing stretches and exercises to maintain your progress independently.
  • Maintenance Care: 80% of patients choose to continue with less frequent Chiropractic visits to maintain spinal alignment and prevent future issues. This is particularly useful for those with evidence of joint wear or previous long-term dysfunction, where continued support can help manage and preserve spinal function.

At the end of your second phase, your Chiropractor will review your progress and present your options, allowing you to make an informed decision on your next steps toward better health.
